Devistation

Is where I am.
To say I'm overwhelmed is an absolute understatement.

My house burned down today.

Yes, I'm serious.
We're fine- everyone made it out safe.
But our cat did not make it.

I don't really even know what to write at the moment, other than my heart is breaking.
You think you're prepared for such things, "if ever there's a fire, I'm grabbing this, this, and this,"
Not so.
We have our pajamas.
I grabbed kids and ran like hell.

On top of that, Companion's car was engulfed in flames.
My car literally exploded.
Homeless and carless all in one night.

We are currently at my parent's.
I will update when possible.

Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers.

Oh msn! Up the creek without a paddle, as they say in Oz. Bugger. Let us know if we can help in any way. Thankfully you did totally the right thing. Grabbing the kids and running is the number one thing to do (and we know here in Oz, we get devastating deadly bushfires). You will be ok, I know, but allow yourself to grieve and be angry and all that. It's necessary. Love to you and the boys. Lighting a candle for you guys tonight...

I am sorry for the loss of your cat.

You have each other, and you have the boys, and that is the most important thing. The rest is replacable, and as hard as the next few weeks will be, you have each other. A good friend of mine lost most of her house in a fire a few months ago, so I know how hard this is right now. At this point, just hold the boys and be grateful that you have them, and that all of you are safe. Praying for you.

So been here. My house burned 2.5 years ago. I have two special needs (autism) kids. All but two cats/dogs died. The only thing I didn't have was an exploding car.
My email is divalea @ gmail.com if you need support for emotional/financial/practical issues. Do not be shy about writing!

I am so glad you are all uninjured physically. Emotionally it will take a while to heal. My thoughts are with you and your family.

Oh my God are you serious? I am so sorry to hear that... especially about your cat! Not that losing your house and car aren't bad, but losing a living pet makes it so much worse! Little Bear and Pufferfish were at their grandma's house back in February when the house caught on fire and burned to the ground, and their grandma and two teenaged aunts lost everything, so I kinda can imagine what you're going through.
Did you have insurance? Is there anything that the Blogosphere might be able to help with?
